Implementation and Rollout Timeline

Design

The CA-EDRS system design implements a national EDR model developed by the National Association of Public Health Information Systems (NAPHSIS).

Standards

Whenever possible, open standards and protocols are being used for the California EDRS System.

Technology Stack

The application is a Web application implemented using the J2EE architecture. The system utilizes several open source architectural and software components including Java Struts 1.1, Hibernate 1.0, and the iText PDF rendering component. CA-EDRS includes novel approaches to supporting 'over the wire' biometric signatures from medical certifiers without added cost to the certifier. Remote signature is accomplished using one of three: (1) voice signature, (2) Fax signature, or (3) electronic signature.
